Ketubah Texts
At KetubahColors we currently offer Traditional Orthodox texts, Traditional Egalitarian texts, and Modern texts for the Interfaith wedding and Renewal wedding (Anniversary). Additional Reform and Commitment texts, coming soon!
A Traditional Orthodox Ketubah is written in Aramaic. Conservative Jews often include an additional paragraph, called the Lieberman Clause, which stipulates that divorce will be adjudicated by a modern rabbinic court. Reform Jews and Interfaith couples often opt for more egalitarian language, similar in tone to marriage vows, which stress the values on which they base their relationship and marriage (love, companionship, family, tradition, etc.) A traditional text can be also accompanied by a more creative, poetic and egalitarian rendition in English.
When you choose a Ketubah with both Hebrew and English texts, the English text does not need to be an exact translation of the Hebrew - some couples incorporate something entirely different.
Because there is a variety of available texts, please consult your rabbi or wedding officiant in order to determine which ketubah text is right for you.
